Bräkne-Hoby combines cultural heritage with opportunities for outdoor activities. The older parish centre around Bräkne-Hoby Church, Svenmanska Park and the Bräkneån Valley each offer something different. There is also Lilla Köksgården and several routes for outdoor activities. If you are planning a stay, you could first consider whether you would prefer to spend your time exploring cultural history, visiting a garden or following a route through the landscape.

Trails in the Bräkneån Valley

The Bräkneån Valley is an area of national interest, offering scenic walking trails and opportunities for recreation. On the Vildmarksleden, you can hike, cycle or ride through peaceful forests with lakes and along the Bräkneån Valley. The trail runs from Nordensköldsparken in Eringsboda to Svenmanska Park in Bräkne-Hoby. This gives you two specific endpoints to use in your planning, while the route accommodates different activities.

The Bräkneleden also runs through the Bräkneån Valley. This 70-kilometre walking and cycling trail can be used in sections. The Bräkne-Hoby Byaslinga is shorter, at 3.7 kilometres, and forms a loop around the village. These figures help you compare the different route lengths; for the Bräkneleden, it is also explicitly possible to use individual sections. You can therefore compare the stated length and format of each route with your own travel plans, without assuming a specific walking time.

Parish history and park style

Svenmanska Park is a well-preserved example of the neoclassical park style in Sweden. Another cultural highlight is the older parish centre around Bräkne-Hoby Church. Its well-preserved character is one reason why Bräkne-Hoby has been designated an area of national interest for cultural heritage preservation.

The historic setting includes a vicarage dating from the 1750s, as well as a sexton’s farm and a parish granary from the 19th century. Buildings from different periods can therefore be found side by side. Bräkne-Hoby Church contains a baptismal font from the early 13th century, made from sandstone from Åhus. The church was also given transepts at an early stage. This was unusual for Romanesque churches in Denmark and Sweden at the time.

The surrounding area also offers clues to its history: there are around 400 archaeological remains in the area around Bräkne-Hoby, bearing witness to a long history. Together with the parish centre and the park, they form a cultural heritage highlight encompassing both preserved buildings and traces of earlier times.

Visit Lilla Köksgården

At Lilla Köksgården, you can stroll through a naturalistic garden with a wide variety of kitchen garden plants. The variety ranges from tomatoes and herbs to unusual plants and flax cultivation. This offers a different focus for your stay than the trails in the valley or the historic buildings. Check seasonal access and opening hours before your trip.

Getting to Bräkne-Hoby

Bräkne-Hoby has regular train and bus connections to Karlshamn, Ronneby and further into the region. Check the timetable for your travel date for specific departures. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Bräkne-Hoby, the area’s highlights provide a useful framework for planning: you can prioritise cultural history, a garden visit and activities on the routes according to what you would like to experience during your trip.
