For a trip to Hammarstrand, winter sports and outdoor routes offer practical starting points: you can include ski slopes, sledding runs and cross-country trails, as well as hiking trails and distinctive landmarks. The activities vary by type and season. When planning, it is therefore worth checking the information about downhill runs, lifts and trails separately.

Skiing, sledding and cross-country skiing

Kullstabacken has 100,000 square metres of ski slope area and varied terrain. The longest run is 1,000 metres long, with a vertical drop of 220 metres. There is a beginner slope with its own lift for children. Operations are seasonal; check the operating conditions for your planned visit.

Hammarstrands Rodel- och Kälkklubb has Sweden’s only artificial track for track luge, bobsleigh and skeleton. There is also a natural track for Snowracers and sport sleds. The artificial track and natural track are two distinct offerings: one is for the three named track sports, while the other is for Snowracers and sport sledders. Access depends on the season and weather.

Kullstaberget has cross-country trails of 4 and 7 kilometres. The two distances offer a straightforward comparison of the routes. The longer trail passes Kullsta Fäbodar, where a rest cabin is available. Trail conditions also depend on the season.

Hiking trails and outdoor destinations

In Hammarstrand, a starting point provides access to the red-marked Vättabergsleden. Kullstabergsleden follows the ridge of Kullstaberget and offers views of Hammarstrand and the valley. The routes described thus differ both in their markings and in how they follow the mountain ridge.

At the summit of Vättaberg, there is a barbecue area and a wind shelter on Vättabergsleden. A forest path to Kullsta Fäbodar leads to a wind shelter and a place to barbecue at the destination. For these trails, the rest facilities mentioned are distinct points of reference for planning.

The Döda fallet nature reserve is near Hammarstrand. It has a 350-metre-long wooden walkway and an 800-metre circular trail. The two stated distances help you consider the walkway and circular trail as different options for your visit.

Distinctive landmarks and local history

The Vildhusstatyn stands in the western part of Hammarstrand, a few dozen metres from the main road. It was unveiled in 1965 as a monument to Magnus Huss. The Hammarstrandsskylten has stood on the slope of Kullstaberget since September 2007. It is 68 metres long, and its letters are 8 metres high.

The town’s origins are also connected to the landscape: Hammarstrand was founded on dry land after Lake Ragunda was drained in 1796. For information on attractions and events in the surrounding area, Ragundadalen’s InfoPoints can help. Check the details before your trip.
