Accommodation in Villarepos
Villarepos offers a clear sense of place and several ways to explore the surrounding area on foot. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in the area, you can first decide whether you prefer a hike with information about its length and duration or a route passing through named places. Protected buildings add a cultural dimension to the focus on hiking. The landscape, routes and buildings thus offer different points of reference when choosing your destination.
Villarepos between the Chandon and the Molasse hills
The village of Villarepos is situated on a hill west of the Chandon, in the Molasse hill country of the northern Fribourg Central Plateau. As the crow flies, it lies about 6 km southwest of Murten and 2.5 km east of Avenches. The former municipal area comprises Molasse hills shaped by Ice Age glaciers between the Broye plain and the Sarine Valley. The Chandon flows through this area from southwest to northeast in a shallow valley up to 300 m wide. The village and the former municipal area refer to different geographical scales: the hill describes the village’s location, while the Broye plain and the Sarine Valley form the broader setting of the former municipal area. Villarepos was a political municipality in the See District of the Canton of Fribourg until 31 December 2016. On 1 January 2017, it merged with Barberêche, Courtepin and Wallenried to form the municipality of Courtepin.
Hikes with different route details
The Avenches–Morat hiking route passes through the village of Villarepos. It is 12.8 km long, takes 3 hours and 10 minutes, and is rated easy. Its length, duration and difficulty rating give you a concrete basis for estimating how much time a hike will take. Check the route details before setting out, as they may change if the route is modified. For the return journey on this hike, you can take a train from Murten railway station; check train connections before travelling.
The Villarepos–Cormérod–Chandossel hike follows a different route. A paved path runs along the Ruisseau des Echelles to Chandossel; the route returns to Villarepos on a paved path near the Chandon. The Ruisseau des Echelles marks the described section to Chandossel, while the Chandon is near the return route to Villarepos. By comparison, the Avenches–Morat route is specified by its length, duration and difficulty. You can therefore base your choice on whether specific timings or the described route are more important for your plans.
