If you’re looking for a hotel for a stay in Lynx, its natural areas and water destinations offer clear guidance for planning your trip. Lynx Prairie Preserve combines marked loop trails with a prairie shaped by the seasons. At Mackenzie Run Boat Ramp, access to Ohio Brush Creek takes center stage. Nearby, you’ll also find the Buzzardroost Rock Preserve Trail and Wilderness Trail. This gives you the option to plan your stay around prairie trails, water access, or other nature destinations.

Nature Trails at Lynx Prairie Preserve

You can reach Lynx Prairie via State Route 125 through Lynx, then Tulip Road to Cline Road. The distance from Tulip Road to Cline Road is 0.8 miles. Public access to Lynx Prairie begins on a trail at the eastern corner of the parking lot.

The preserve has three clearly marked, interconnected loop trails: Red, White, and Green. Together, they cover 1.3 miles. The trails are open daily year-round from dawn to dusk. The connecting loops and their names make it easy to navigate the trail network, while the total distance gives you a concrete sense of scale for planning.

Prairie and History

The trails run around and through prairies. In late summer and early fall, prairie grasses and tall flowers define the landscape. If this vegetation is important to you, this season is a useful guide for planning your trip. The site was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1967, adding a clearly dated historical context to a visit to the preserve.

Boat Access on Ohio Brush Creek

Mackenzie Run Boat Ramp is located at 653 Waggoner Riffle Road in Lynx. It provides access to Ohio Brush Creek for boats and paddlecraft. From this stretch of the creek, there is access to deep water on the Ohio River, three miles downstream. So, in addition to the loop trails in the preserve, Lynx offers a specific access point for travelers whose plans include getting on the water.
