Decordova on Lake Granbury
Accommodation in Decordova
Decordova is located on Lake Granbury and shaped by the history of the settlement and the DeCordova-Bend Dam. When planning your trip, distinguish the location from the community facilities: DeCordova is a gated residential community. Access is limited to members, their guests, and real estate agents; the respective community and club rules also apply to individual facilities.
Lake Granbury and local history
Lake Granbury is the geographic reference point for DeCordova. The settlement was the first to be established on the lake. The historic name De Cordova Bend also refers to the landscape: it was the name given to an area on the Brazos River where DeCordova is located. These details place the community in relation to both the lake and its historic surroundings.
DeCordova was planned as a weekend resort for residents of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. This plan describes the settlement’s original purpose and is part of its history. Together with its founding on Lake Granbury, it paints a picture of a place whose development is closely tied to the lake and its development.
The DeCordova-Bend Dam
The DeCordova-Bend Dam is a structure made of concrete and earth. It is 2,220 feet long and 82 feet high. These measurements describe two different dimensions of the structure: its length and its height. This provides a sense of the dam’s scale without confusing the two measurements.
The Brazos River Authority built the dam and Lake Granbury. Construction began in December 1966 and was completed in September 1969. The dam and lake are therefore part of a shared infrastructure history, while DeCordova’s founding describes the settlement’s connection to Lake Granbury.
Golf and facilities at DeCordova Bend Estates
The Durant Course is a 9-hole, par-3 course. If you would like to play there, check the access requirements with the club in advance. DeCordova Bend Estates also has an 18-hole championship golf course. The access rules of the gated residential community and the club apply to this course. The details about the number of holes and course type help distinguish the two golf descriptions.
The marina at DeCordova Bend Estates has 74 boat slips and two covered piers. Access is subject to the community and club rules. The marina is a specific part of the community facilities; its capacity refers to the boat slips, not to travelers’ access rights.
DeCordova Bend Estates has two lighted tennis courts. Tennis is available year-round, and the courts can be used by reservation. The ball machine is reserved for residents. The community pool also has specific terms: the swimming season begins on the second Tuesday in May and ends on October 1 of the same year. Season dates may change.
DeCordova’s fitness center is locked and accessible only to members of the fitness club. If you are planning your trip around any of these facilities, check the applicable access requirements directly with the community or the relevant club. This way, you can consider the location, the activity you want to enjoy, and the rules that apply separately in your planning.
