Langenenslingen offers a range of points of interest for culture and history enthusiasts: the Alte Burg above Warmtal, the Stauffenberg forester’s lodge with the Jünger House, and churches with distinctive architectural and artistic features. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you are particularly interested in archaeological traces, a writer’s home and working life, or sacred art and architecture. These historic sites give your stay a cultural focus that you can tailor to your interests.

The Alte Burg above Warmtal

The Alte Burg is a site covering about two hectares. Its features include man-made terraces and large walls. Archaeologists from the State Office for Monument Preservation have definitively dated the site to the Celtic period. With its size, terraces, and walls, it offers a different way to explore history than a house or a church interior: here, the focus is on the extent of the site and its archaeological classification.

From the hiking car park, you can reach the Alte Burg via a signposted footpath. Driving in the forest is strictly prohibited. When planning your visit, follow the local signs for current conditions.

The forester’s lodge and the Jünger House

The Stauffenberg forester’s lodge is a Baroque building dating from 1728. The writer Ernst Jünger (1895–1998) lived there from 1951 until his death. At the Jünger House, you can visit his living and working rooms, which have been preserved in their original condition, including the library and beetle collection, as well as the garden belonging to the house. Another room is dedicated to his brother Friedrich Georg Jünger (1898–1977). In this way, the house brings together architectural history and personal living and working spaces. Churches and art in Langenenslingen

The present-day parish church of St. Konrad is on the main street near the castle in Langenenslingen and was built in the style of 1890. In the Church of St. James in Dürrenwaldstetten, three large ceiling paintings by Januarius Zick tell the Christmas story. Each church offers a different emphasis: at St. Konrad, the focus is on architectural style, while at St. James it is on the pictorial program. If you are interested in churches, you can explore architecture and ceiling paintings as different ways of engaging with history and religious art.
