Discover Uttenweiler: Trails, Nature and History
Accommodation in Uttenweiler
The destinations offer a range of different experiences, from a hike of about 45 minutes around the Bussen to insights into the time of Sebastian Sailer. You can choose your destination based on the activities that appeal to you most.
Trails and Landscapes
The Creation Trail around the Bussen is considered an easy hiking route and takes about 45 minutes. It starts near the car park at the Gasthaus Steiner and ends 20 metres below the Bussen Church. The time given is a guideline; walking conditions may vary.
There are also hiking and cycling routes with viewpoints towards the Alps, as well as paths along streams and lakes. From Ahlener Höhe, the view stretches across the Federsee to the Alps. If views are important to you on a tour, this spot offers a specific vantage point alongside the waterside routes.
The Ahlener Oak is more than 700 years old and is designated a natural monument. It contains a wayside shrine with a Baroque figure of Christ. The Bussen is also an active Marian pilgrimage site. The Bussen ruins were restored to provide panoramic views from the keep.
Swimming and Outdoor Recreation
The Uttenweiler natural swimming lake offers a different focus. It includes a one-hectare swimming lake, a long sandy beach, slides and diving boards. There is a shallow water-play area for children. This means the options range from a shallow play area to slides and diving facilities; the beach adds a separate area for swimming.
The lake also has beach volleyball, badminton courts and recreational play equipment. If you would like to include land-based activities in your stay, you can make these a separate focus of your leisure time. Ahlener Höhe is a public recreation area with a barbecue and fire pit, weather shelter, playground equipment and fitness equipment. Local rules apply to use of the barbecue and fire pit.
The two recreation areas offer different experiences: the natural swimming lake focuses on the lake, beach and water-play facilities, while Ahlener Höhe combines views, weather shelter, and play or fitness equipment.
Culture and History
The Schlossmühle can be visited; its half-timbered structure is attributed to a reconstruction by Abbot Ulrich von Stein. The Sebastian Sailer Memorial displays pictures and religious objects from the time of Sebastian Sailer. Visits are possible by prior appointment, so it is advisable to arrange one before travelling.
The surrounding area also offers a glimpse into earlier periods. The area around the Bussen is an ancient settlement region with Celtic square enclosures. The Federsee area is only a few kilometres from Uttenweiler; evidence of Stone Age finds has been discovered there. The regional historical topics span different periods: Celtic traces are the focus at the Bussen, while the Federsee area is known for its Stone Age finds.
