Discover Magnano In Riviera
Accommodation in Magnano In Riviera
On foot at Monte Faeit
The “10mila passi ai piedi del Monte Faeit” trail starts in Piazza Urli in the center of Magnano In Riviera and is about 6.5 kilometers long. Its terrain includes both flat sections and ascents and descents. So the distance alone does not fully describe the route.
The route passes through beech and chestnut woods and by a small waterfall with a bench. It reaches a viewpoint overlooking Castello di Prampero and then leads back to Piazza Urli. The woods, waterfall, and viewpoint make for distinct stages along the loop before it returns to its starting point.
The castle, chapel, and church history
The history of Castello di Prampero dates back to 1025. At that time, Poppo, Patriarch of Aquileia, permitted a feudal lord from Bavaria to build a castrum on a wooded hill above the cultivated plain. The castle developed from this structure. From 1961, the artist Afro Basaldella chose the castle as a creative retreat; it was destroyed in the 1976 earthquake.
On a small hill below the castle stands the Cappella di Santa Margherita di Prampero. After the 1976 earthquake, it was rebuilt with state support and reopened for worship in 1993. Its history links reconstruction after the earthquake with a return to religious use.
The Chiesa di San Nicolò di Bueriis also has clearly distinct historical dates: it was first documented in 1291 and consecrated in 1589. The first mention and the later consecration refer to different events.
Historic routes and finding your way around
Remains of a Roman road suggest that Magnano In Riviera was a trading center and an important stopping place for travelers. This evidence adds the area’s former role in travel to its architectural and church history.
Within the municipality, a road near Bueriis, close to the hamlet of Zurini, circles the hill and connects villages. Some paths cross the hill. This local orientation refers to Bueriis and the surrounding villages.
Friulian folklore and festival traditions
Since 2003, the Balarins de Riviere have held the Morenico del Folklore festival in Piazza di Magnano In Riviera every two years. The folklore group performs traditional Friulian dances and scenes from rural life in times past. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates of the specific edition separately.
The traditional Fieste dai Croz, also known as Festa delle rane, in Bueriis within the municipality of Magnano In Riviera included live music by orchestras, theater events, entertainment for children, gatherings, and sports tournaments in the program for its 50th edition. These program items refer to that edition; if you are planning a visit, check the dates and program for the specific edition.
