Granbury offers several ways to shape your stay: explore the history surrounding Historic Granbury Square, historic buildings, theaters, and activities at Lake Granbury. Deciding which of these to focus on can help you plan your visit.

Historic Granbury Square and Courthouse

The Hood County Courthouse is at the center of Granbury’s historic downtown. The three-story building is made of limestone and was built in the French Second Empire style. It has been recognized as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark since 1970, listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974, and designated a State Antiquities Landmark since 1981. Historic Granbury Square also has historical significance: it was the first courthouse square in Texas to be added to the National Register of Historic Places. So, when you take in the downtown area, both the architecture of the courthouse and the history of the square are in focus.

Historic Buildings and Theater

Built in 1914, the Granbury Railroad Depot is a preserved symbol of rail travel to and from Granbury. It is significant to the region’s history, architecture, and culture. The Granbury Opera House offers another historic highlight: originally built in 1886, it has been extensively renovated to reflect the period. The venue is home to the Granbury Theatre Company, which stages eight to ten productions over the course of a year. The program may change, so check current dates if you’re planning to attend a performance. D’Vine Wine Granbury offers guided wine tastings in the form of wine flights.

Lake Granbury and Parks

Granbury City Beach is on Lake Granbury in the heart of the city. Amenities include a splash park and picnic pavilions, with kayak rentals available in summer. Availability may change. There are also public fishing piers on Lake Granbury. The lake offers several options for your visit: a splash park, picnic areas, seasonal kayak rentals, and fishing piers.

Shanley Park offers a different experience. This landscaped park is in the historic downtown area and features fountains, paths, bridges, and a winding stream. It hosts concerts and festivals throughout the year. If you’re planning to attend a specific event, check the current dates. The paths and bridges are part of the park’s design, while the fountains and stream add water features to the scene.
