Litér: Church, Közpark and Local Culture
Accommodation in Litér
Litér can be considered as a travel destination through its historic church, local festival culture and municipal leisure facilities. If you’re looking for hotels in Litér, these different themes can help you assess the town according to your interests.
Church and Local History
Litér’s Reformed Church was built in the 13th century in the Early Gothic style. Its southern portal, dating from that period, is considered the first Hungarian example of a portal with column figures developed in Chartres. Visits are possible year-round by prior arrangement. Arrange your visit before travelling.
Another historical reference point is Bódi Mária Magdolna, who died in Litér on 23 March 1945 as a martyr for Christ. The two themes highlight different periods: medieval church architecture and a specific event from 1945.
Közpark, Sports and Local Festivals
Közpark has an open-air stage and an audience area. It also has a nationally unique cycle track illuminated by solar-powered LED lamps. The facilities therefore offer different features: a stage with an audience area and a lit track for cycling.
The Műfüves futballpálya is a 20 × 40-metre illuminated artificial-turf football pitch in the courtyard of the Litéri Református Általános Iskola. Its dimensions of 20 × 40 metres, artificial turf, lighting and location in the courtyard of the Litéri Református Általános Iskola distinguish it from the facilities in Közpark.
The Mogyorósi Napok takes place in July and is considered the most important event in Litér’s community life. The Szent György Napi Birkafőző Verseny is associated with the May Festival. The farmers’ market offers products from local agricultural production. As market hours may change, check them before your visit.
The timing information also differs: the church can be visited year-round, but only by prior arrangement; the Mogyorósi Napok takes place in July, and the cooking competition is associated with the May Festival. Check the specific dates of events and arrange your church visit in advance.
A cycling route project envisaged cycle paths between Litér and Balatonfűzfő, as well as between Litér and Szentkirályszabadja. The project was intended to cover a total of 13.7 kilometres. If you’d like to include these planned connections in your route planning, check the current route status beforehand.

Hegyestű also has a rock garden featuring characteristic rock types of Transdanubia. Here, geology and landscape can be explored through specific features.
Culture and crafts are also represented: the Herend Porcelain Museum has a permanent exhibition and rotating exhibitions on the history of the manufactory. In workshops at the Minimanufaktúra, visitors can handle porcelain paste and a brush for painting. The Levendula Ház presents an interactive exhibition about the formation of the Tihany Peninsula and lavender cultivation, and offers a craft workshop and a discovery garden.
